Artist Statement:
When I was little, I used to draw columns on orange-colored paper and make tiny dots in each column. Later, I drew people with yellow skin, big black circles for eyes, and blood-red lips. My drawings had a known subject when I began to draw Sailor Moon - a Japanese-anime heroine from my childhood.
Over time, my artistic style has evolved to incorporate styles of Japanese anime and graphic pop art. What I love about art is that it allows me to take my interests and inspirations and incorporate them into pieces that reflect them. My love for music has transformed my art into projections of my musical tastes, and my love for anime has been the medium through which I portray these tastes. After finally becoming an AP Art student, art has become so much more liberating to me. No longer do I need to draw certain objects or people; all that I have is my paper, my imagination, and myself.
My four years of high school have been an emotionally and academically challenging period in my life. Art has been my trampoline-- when I feel I’m about to fall, it catches me and catapults me back into reality. This trampoline of mine led me to discover the theme for my portfolio. My concentration is: The Struggle for Perfection. I hope viewers of my artistic anthology find it to be a door to my perspective on life: the choices we make every day define ourselves.
Welcome to my world.
